Cities are the foundation of a civilisation, simultaneously upstream and downstream of its power: they generate economic strength, compound technological innovation, and concentrate the industrial capacity that ultimately determines geopolitical contests.

For the last 500 years, the most advanced cities have been in the West, or in Western-aligned nations.
